Book Review: Now: Purposeful Steps Toward a More Abundant Life: An Encouraging Devotional For Women

33152082

My Thoughts:

This is a great little devotional. I love that it is short enough to be read in one sitting but with it's substance and reflection questions I found myself revisiting each chapter. I think it would make a great book club book. While I don't think this book is for everyone I think it would be very helpful to someone who is feeling overwhelmed and not quite sure what direction to take in life. The author talks you through fine tuning your dreams and guides you into how to make those dreams a reality.

Back Cover Quote:

"Do you have big goals that seem impossible? Are you ready to step out into fulfilling your dreams but everything seems so overwhelming? In Now: Purposeful Steps Toward a More Abundant Life, Sarah Coller shares practical steps for living a fulfilling life, no matter your life circumstances. This simple devotional offers readers a place to journal thoughts and prayers and is excellent for both individual and small group study."

Recommendation:

You should definitely check this book out and right now it is a steal on Amazon for only $4.99.

The author, Sarah Coller, also blogs at www.classicalhomemaking.com.

New Instagram Account and a Leave of Absence

First things first, let's talk about Instagram.

I had a moment last week where I realized I didn't want to be posting so many pictures of my children on the internet. One day they are going to be old enough to have an opinion on the matter and while I'm sure a few pictures here and there will be okay, I'm sure they won't want their whole life documented on social media. So I made my account private and removed everyone I didn't know in real life. I probably could have found a better way to go about it than just deleting everyone but in the moment that's all I could think of. I reopened another account under the same name. If you would like to follow along you can still find me at TheWoollyHomestead. I will still be posting about life on our homestead but it will include a lot less pictures of my kiddos.

This leads me into the second thing I wanted to talk about. With baby#3 being due in a few weeks I am planning on taking a leave of absence from the blog. I may pop over here once in awhile but I don't imagine it will be that often. I'm pretty confident that three kids, gardening, sheep, milking, chickens, canning, etc...are going to keep me very busy this summer. Once things settle down in the fall and we find our new groove as a family of five I hope to return to posting more regularly. I will still be on Instagram so be sure to follow us over there

I hope you have a wonderful spring and summer! See ya in the fall!

Snow Day: Cake for Breakfast

Today is our first REAL snow day. Everything is covered in white and the kids are thrilled!

I had oats soaking overnight with the intention of making oatmeal or our favorite oatmeal pancakes, but this morning with the excitement of snow I decided maybe we should have a more exciting breakfast.

And what is more exciting than getting to have cake for breakfast!? And it's not even anyone's birthday.

All Around the Home and Homestead Blog Party #14

Happy Monday, friends! The sun is shining and it looks like we are in for a beautiful day, at least here in PA. I don't mind the cold but I do mind the clouds. I swear my productivity depends on the sun. Sunny days just make life better.

This weekend we went to visit our local Cabela's. The kids love it. To them, it's almost as much fun as visiting the zoo. I guess it is like a zoo, in a slightly morbid way. Anywho..... We made the trip since we decided we needed to upgrade out meat grinder. The last two years we have used our Kitchen-Aid attachment to do all of our grinding, which has been nothing short of awful. We decided if we are going to continue raising our own meat we need the correct tool for the job. It was a tough decision but we ended up buying the 3/4 hp Cabela's model. Once we put some more use on it I'll write up a review to share with you.

That's enough about me, let's get on with the blog party.

In case you missed the news....  I am excited to announce I will now be co-hosting the All Around the Home and Homestead Blog Party with Jennifer from Faithful Homestead. Head on over and check out her blog. She is another homesteading homeschooling mama and her blog has a wealth of information.

How to Tell When Your Ewe is Going to Lamb

Happy Friday, everyone! This week I am thirty weeks pregnant and simultaneously super excited and a little nervous. I know I've said it before, but this pregnancy is flying by. I can't believe I'm going to have another squish to snuggle in just two months! We should probably get our butt in gear and pick out some names, purchase another car-seat, and dig out the baby clothes. It's crazy how with the first kid you plan everything and by the third you're all, "eh, everything will work out just fine!"

But anyways.... we aren't here to talk about human babies today.

Let's talk about sheep and how to tell when your ewe will have her lambs.

Home Management Binder: Daily Rhythm

I don't know if it is the teacher in me or my personality but I love making lists and getting organized. That isn't to say I am an organized person, (let's be real!) but I love the process. And what better time to get organized and start fresh than the new year. The holidays always throw our schedule off anyway so January is a breath of fresh air and a time when we can pause and get our lives back in order.

All Around the Home and Homestead Blog Party #13

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had an enjoyable weekend. In our neck of the woods the temperature has finally dropped a bit, so it actually feels like winter. For the last couple of weeks it has felt like spring. I'm hoping we get some snow soon too. Winter isn't my favorite season but a couple of snowstorms are nice. The kiddos really want to go sledding and build a snowman and the one snowfall we had so far was pitiful.

Our weekend was filled with family and filling our freezer. My grandmother was in town visiting and it was wonderful to be able to spend time with her since we don't get to see her very often. It was very sweet to watch her love on her great-grandbabies. We also butchered another lamb for our freezer. We have an excess of hay this year so we haven't been in a rush to get all of the lambs processed. This was our third one and we still have two left to go. It has been nice to spread it out since butchering, while rewarding in some respects, is also emotionally-draining. Taking a life is not an easy decision and we are very thankful for the sustenance the animal will provide for our family.

All Around the Home and Homestead Blog Party #12

It's a nasty day here in our neck of the woods. Super windy, lots of rain, and to top it off I came down with a stomach bug early this morning (which is why this post is a little late.) I am finally able to keep some food down and am slowly feeling better. Stomach bugs really are the worst. I'd take a cold heck, even childbirth, over it any day.  I'm praying the kids and husband will be spared. So while the house and me may be a mess the kids and critters are alive and fed and that's a success in my book.

2017 Back to Basics Living Bundle

This is the bundle I have been waiting for. There are other bundles out there but I always felt that they weren't quite geared towards me. Sure, I am interested in health, green living, homeschooling, etc... and I found many of the resources helpful, but I felt like they didn't "get" my homesteading side. This bundle changes that.

The Back to Basics Living Bundle is perfect for those of us wanting a simpler lifestyle. It's perfect for the life-long homesteader as well as those that are just moving in that direction.

(This post contains affiliate links. If you decide to make a purchase through my link, I may receive a small commission for it. This doesn’t cost you anything additional. These commissions help support this blog and my family, thank you!)

Life has become so busy and we are constantly bombarded with distractions. I know I’m preaching to the choir, when I say we all need to slow down and take a look at what’s really important. But it’s one thing to know changes need to be made and quite another to take the actions needed to make those changes.

Even when you want to make changes it can be difficult to know where to start. Meaningful lasting change happens in steps, so how do you know what those first steps are?

The Back To Basics Living Bundle was created to help you find out which steps you should take first to reduce stress, save money, live healthier and be prepared for whatever comes your way.

I’m so happy to recommend the Back To Basics Living Bundle hosted by Jennifer and Bill Osuch over at Self Reliant School. They live and preach the back to basics lifestyle everyday, and this year they have brought together over 65 content creators to give you the very best resources for you to make real change.

The value of the resources in the bundle is over $800, but you get everything at a 96% discount!

Check it out--click here!

If you’ve been trying to make these kinds of change but keep getting stuck, or end up frustrated because you’ve lost the motivation, The Back To Basics Living Bundle can be your guide. The easy getting started guide will take you step by step through the bundle and help you decide the best place for you to start. This is the easiest and best way to set yourself up for success.

I'm entering my third trimester!

Goodness gracious this pregnancy is flying by. I guess with trying to keep up with two kids and our homestead chores there hasn't been much time to think about this anything else.

So before this bundle makes his or her appearance and my focus turns to all things baby, I want to share a simple recipe with you. This recipe is what got me through my first trimester.

Farm Scenes Friday: #4

4yo- "Mom, there is SO MUCH SNOW!"

4yo- "Like so much! Let's go now. We can build a snowman and make snow angels and a burrow!"

Me- "That sounds great! But...How about you let me get out out of the shower first?"

2016: A Year in Review

It's Tuesday morning which means the holidays are officially over. My husband is back to work today and our days go back to their normal routine. I love Christmas but this time of year always seems busy no matter how much we plan on keeping things simple. I love visiting family and friends but the introvert in me craves some quiet time. I know a lot of people who live for the weekend and holidays but I love our ordinary days so much more and I'm excited to see their return. Not that our normal days are really normal. With kids, critters, homesteading, and homeschooling life is always interesting and they all like to keep me on my toes.
