Simple Granola Recipe

Sometimes I just want an easy breakfast. A breakfast that doesn't involve cooking. Especially on the days that we need to be out the door by a certain time. With chores and two little kids, getting out the door on time is already difficult and cooking a hot breakfast just adds more chaos to those days.

This is where a lot of people would just turn to cereal. However, we gave up store-bought cereals years ago when we learned just how unhealthy they are. We do eat oatmeal or fruit and yogurt some mornings but there are days I just want to be able to pour something out of a box.

The solution...... Homemade Granola.

Granola has become a staple around here. I love it for busy mornings or as a snack. With a little bit of sugar is feels like a treat but it is loaded with good ingredients. And it is easy to change the add-ins for a whole new flavor.

Here is our basic recipe. Feel free to switch up the add-ins to suit your taste.

Simple Granola Recipe
  • 4 cups rolled oats (To make this more digestible you can soak the oats beforehand and then dehydrate them prior to using.)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup raisins or other dried fruit
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds or other seed/nut
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  1. Mix the oats, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Combine the honey, vanilla, and coconut oil in a saucepan and warm over medium-low heat until liquified.
  3. Pour the honey mixture over the oat mixture and stir well to combine.
  4. Place the oat mixture into a 9x13 pan and place in a oven at 325 degrees. Bake about 20 minutes or until lightly browned stirring every 5-10 minutes for even browning.
  5. Remove from oven and let cool.
  6. Add the dried fruit, seeds, nuts, and coconut.
  7. Store in a sealed container.
Enjoy!
