Cloth Diapers: Wash, Wipes, & Rash

Choosing to use cloth diapers is an easy choice. Figuring out how to keep them clean can be a bit more difficult. There are so many factors that can affect your washing routine: covers, inserts, style of washer, type of water, detergent....... the list goes on.

Budget Friendly Cloth Diapers

This post is for those of you that have decided to use cloth diapers and want to do so on a budget.

I knew with my first that I wanted to use cloth diapers. I liked that they were better for the environment and could also save you money. The problem I ran into though was that there are an overwhelming amount of cloth diaper choices. A lot of the choices are also expensive. So while they might save you money in the long run it can be hard to part with that much money up front. I also disliked that many of the options could never be used for anything else. For example, an all-in-one diaper can only ever be a diaper. It couldn't be a cleaning rag after the kids are out of diapers. I wanted a system that was simple, budget friendly, and multi-purpose.

Picture Perfect

When I started staying at home full-time I thought my house would be super clean and organized. I figured I would have so much more time during the day to get everything on my to-do list done. When I pictured our homestead I envisioned a red barn, green pastures, and everything in it's place.

Oatmeal Pancakes

Fluffy pancakes. Maple syrup. Melted butter. A glass of raw milk.

I'm pretty sure this is the stuff dreams are made of..... or at least a great breakfast!

These pancakes are my family's favorite. They are delicious, wholesome enough for breakfast, and topped with maple syrup they are sweet enough to be a special treat. I have even been known to through in some chocolate chips for special occasions.

Nutrient Dense Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate.

Indulgent and creamy it is the perfect drink for these chilly mornings.

But, please don't reach for a packet. You know the ones. You can do better and it only takes a couple more minutes to make it from scratch. Plus, with the addition of a few special ingredients, this hot chocolate packs a nutrient dense punch.

DIY Deodorant

Just because I enjoy hanging out in a barn doesn't mean I want to smell like one. So just like most of you, every morning I slather my pits with deodorant. Many years ago I used the mainstream varieties which contained an antiperspirant. But after researching the ingredients in most commercial deodorants/antiperspirants I realized I really did not want those chemicals on my skin. I started to buy natural deodorants from the store but they were expensive and not very effective. Finally, I discovered the magic that is coconut oil and found some recipes containing coconut oil to try online. Once I started making my own I was hooked. It was inexpensive and very effective. Plus, all of the ingredients, minus the essential oils, are edible! Not that I want to eat deodorant but if I can put it IN my body I feel comfortable putting in ON my body.
