Meal Planning Made Easy

It is almost the end of the month, which means for me, it is almost time to update the pages in my homemaking/homestead management binder. One of the pages I'll be swapping out is my monthly meal plan. I know that meal planning can sound daunting, especially when trying to meal plan for an entire month. It doesn't have to be hard though.

Animals on the Homestead

We decided to homestead so we would one day be be able to grow a significant portion of our own food. Since we are not vegans, we decided we would raise animals for meat, milk, and fiber in addition to having a large vegetable garden. Before we moved to this property we researched what kind of animals would suit our needs and kept coming back to sheep. They can be triple purpose and because of their size are easy to handle. We also settled on chickens for both eggs and meat.

Yogurt: Make Some Today

The other night, as I was eating yogurt for the fourth time that day, I realized that yogurt really is a wonderful and versatile food It can stand on it's own as a breakfast or snack item. It can replace sour cream and be used as a base for dressings and dips. Swirl in some jam or chocolate syrup and call it dessert. You can even use yogurt or yogurt whey to soak your grains.

Garden Encouragement

Last year was our first full growing season at this property. DH and I were pretty excited and ordered a bunch of seeds in January. We had only ever had a very small garden at our old house and didn't have much experience planning a garden. Either way as soon as the seeds came in we set to work planning the perfect garden.

Finding Our Rhythm

It is a new year and time to get back on track with a new routine. We aren't a slave to the schedule but I find that I am much more productive when I have a plan and DD has an easier time transitioning between activities. We are planning to start a more formal home-school curriculum this summer and I think having a more structured day will help us with that.

Welcome

It all started back in 2010 with five ducks and a copy of Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon.

Prior to reading Nourishing Traditions we ate a diet that was healthy by mainstream standards. We even went vegetarian for a year. But something wasn't right and we didn't feel our best. After coming across Nourishing Traditions and giving it a read everything changed. The book made so much sense that we started implementing it's ideas immediately. We started eating traditional, whole, real food and our bodies thanked us.
